Railway standards require connectors to provide interference-free and reliable transmission even in environments that place high demands on them. Moisture, dust, or vibrations—such as those caused by uneven tracks and rockfall—are daily challenges that railway technology must overcome. Harsh weather conditions demand robust materials. The connection must be protected against electrical and magnetic interference.

GIMOTA circular connectors were specifically developed for demanding applications in rail vehicles. They comply with the MIL DTL-5015 and VG95234 standards, featuring threaded or bayonet locks.

Thanks to their vibration resistance in accordance with IEC 61373, their tested protection ratings up to IP69 per IEC 60529, and their high fire resistance rating, these connectors are particularly well-suited to the demands of railway technology. They comply with the European fire safety standard for rail transport, EN 45545-2, in category R23 HL3, as well as fire compartmentation standard EN 45545-3 E20.

Thanks to the wide variety of pin configurations, the large number of cable entry options, and the different housing materials and their coatings, there is a suitable connector for every application—whether for data, signals, or power.

In railway technology, connectors are exposed not only to constantly high levels of shock, vibration, and temperature stress but also to rapidly changing environmental conditions. To ensure they function flawlessly at all times, they must be robust enough to withstand these harsh conditions. Connectors used in safety-critical railway applications must not only withstand shocks, vibrations, and other environmental influences; they must also function reliably and consistently at all times.

Therefore, the materials used have a direct impact on performance and reliability. Voltage ratings, dimensions, and thermal shock resistance play a major role—especially for underfloor applications, such as traction, motor, and brake control systems, where cables and connectors are exposed to extreme temperatures. In this context, the components must be designed to be flame-retardant in accordance with EN 45545-2 and provide fire compartmentation in accordance with EN 45545-3.

Ethylene acrylate is suitable for temperatures ranging from -55 to +150 °C; connectors with silicone sealing inserts have an operating temperature range of -55 to +200 °C. The housings are made of a RoHS-compliant aluminum alloy and are available either with a black epoxy-polyurethane coating (non-conductive) or a special zinc coating (conductive).

IP69 protection rating per IEC 60529 is standard, depending on the cable termination. This makes these connectors ideal for power connections, junction boxes, or instrument panel indicator lights.

High data rates are now a required standard. Therefore, in addition to robustness and reliability, the functionality and performance of the connectors are also crucial. Gimota circular connectors are exceptionally well-suited for combining multiple signal types, such as Ethernet, MVB, WTB, and video signals.
