GMP power connectors for high-current and high-voltage applications
Gimota GMP power connectors are robust high-current and high-voltage connectors designed for demanding power transmission applications in rail vehicles and other railway engineering applications. They are used wherever high currents, high voltages and consistently reliable electrical connections are required — for example, in the powertrain, between the power converter and the traction motor, on inverters, batteries, control units or for inter-car power connections.
Gimota’s GMP Power connectors are rated for up to 3600 VAC and currents of up to 1000 A. This makes them suitable for numerous high-current connections in multiple units, metros, locomotives, high-speed trains and other railway vehicles. Depending on the application, various designs, pole counts, cable outlets, strain reliefs and connection options can be implemented. Cable cross-sections of up to 300 mm² enable the transmission of high electrical power even under confined installation and operating conditions.
Typical applications for Gimota GMP connectors include motor and power connections in railway applications, the connection of traction motors, connections between power converters and traction motors, and interfaces for inverters, battery systems and high-current distribution boards. The multi-pole, modular power connectors can be configured with up to 5 contacts on the connector side and support cable cross-sections ranging from 50 mm² to 300 mm². Their compact design and application-oriented configurability – with more than five contacts also possible on the housing side – facilitate their use in complex vehicle electrical architectures.
For harsh environments, GMP power connectors are designed with robust housings and vibration-resistant connection properties. They offer high resistance to vibration, impact and shock, making them suitable for areas subject to mechanical stress in rail vehicles. Depending on the model, end housings are available with or without a shield connection, allowing the connectors to be adapted to different electrical and EMC requirements.
When mated, Gimota GMP high-current connectors achieve protection class IP68 in accordance with DIN EN 60529, depending on the version. This protects them against dust and prolonged submersion, and makes them suitable for demanding operating conditions in the rail sector. The operating temperature range of -50 °C to +150 °C supports use in varying climatic environments and in thermally demanding power applications.
The GMP series is RoHS-compliant and meets the requirements of the European standard EN 50467 for electrical connectors in rail vehicles. The insulating bodies comply with the fire safety requirements of DIN EN 45545-2 R22, R23 / HL1, HL2, HL3. The series thus provides a standard-compliant basis for high-current and high-voltage connections in modern rail vehicles.
