GCM cable entry system for railway engineering and fire safety

Gimota GCM cable entry systems are designed for safe, flexible and standards-compliant cable management in rail vehicles, control cabinets, machinery and enclosures. They enable organised cable routing, reliable sealing and easy adaptation of existing installations — particularly where safety requirements, fire protection and ease of installation play a key role.

In modern rail transport, cable entry systems must not only be mechanically reliable but also meet strict requirements regarding fire safety, material quality and operational safety. Gimota’s GCM cable glands have been specially developed for applications in railway technology and are designed for use behind walls, cladding, control cabinets and technical enclosures in railway vehicles.

At the heart of the system are the GCMD-FR sealing elements. These are available in two sizes and are made from a special, railway-approved TPE. The material meets the requirements of DIN EN 45545-2 HL3, thereby supporting safe use in various train classes and line profiles. The sealing elements ensure a reliable seal and contribute to structured, protected cable management within the vehicle.

The GCMH frames are available to complement the sealing elements. Together, they form a flexible cable entry system that can be used for a variety of assembly and cable assembly requirements. The IP66 protection rating provides protection against dust and powerful water jets. At the same time, tool-free assembly enables quick installation and easy adjustment when cables need to be retrofitted, replaced or rearranged.

For enhanced fire protection requirements, Gimota offers the certified GCMS-FSP fire protection sets. These sets are designed for all available frame sizes and contain a precisely fitting, intumescent fire protection mat, heat-resistant fixing screws and the necessary installation materials. The fire protection kits meet fire resistance class E30 in accordance with DIN EN 45545-3 and thus provide a tested solution for fire-critical cable penetrations in rail vehicles.

A key advantage of the GCM cable management system is its high flexibility during operation. Changes to the cable routing can be made without removing the frame. This makes the system suitable for installations where cable runs need to be expanded, adapted or maintained. The combination of standard-compliant materials, IP66 protection, fire protection options and ease of use makes GCM a well-designed solution for cable penetrations in railway technology and industrial environments.
